Across Lothian, people of all abilities are discovering confidence, connection and joy through sport. These personal stories celebrate the power of inclusive communities and the difference participation can make.

“I joined the Frame Running group at CAAC 9 months ago to find not only a form of exercise that I love and which challenges me physically, but a wonderful group of friends where age is not important. From the outset I felt welcomed, included and a valued member of the team. The coaches are outstanding in their support, encouragement and good humour and nothing is too much trouble if any adjustment is needed to our frames. For me it is a fixed commitment and highlight of my week. There is so much I could say about the pleasure, enjoyment and health benefits both physical and mental, of being in the group - but suffice to say we are a team of athletes, coaches and supporters united and defined by a shared passion, enthusiasm and desire to push ourselves further as individuals and as a team together. I love it and the smile on my face and my team members faces while we are ‘running’ together sums up clearly the fun we have and I am so proud and thankful to be a part of this exceptional group.”

“Being part of CAAC has enabled me not only to develop as a frame runner but to be part of a truly inclusive club. I’ve been incredibly lucky to meet and train with similar people and I’ve had the opportunity to build friendships. Even during the winter months I was able to build on my strength and conditioning through weekly gym sessions held by the club.”

“Without the CAAC commitment to frame running group would have meant travel to East Lothian. And with the transition to high school at the same time would have been tough. Routine training is an opportunity to have a level playing field with people who go through similar daily challenges as Ian and an opportunity for him to perform and push his boundaries in a safe environment.
Joining Corstorphine Athletic Club just over a year ago has opened so many doors for Ian: first rate coaches who are passionate about sport, coaches who are passionate about giving those with additional needs the same opportunity to experience all that sport has to offer irrespective of their personal barriers and a Club who are not just saying they want to be inclusive but are being inclusive. To be part of a Club is important to Ian as it allows him to experience all the positives of being a collective, being a team and to meet lots of new people both on and off the frame, to experience camaraderie and not feel different.”

“After 2 strokes it was hard to get back into sport until frame running was found, I now feel included back into the sporting world again
I am proud to be part of such a great club that accepts anyone no matter their disability or age and adapts for them.
I’m so happy to have met other people that have a disability like myself and we all share the same passion in such a welcoming and family feel club.”
