Powerchair Football in Edinburgh and the Lothian Region

Powerchair Football in Edinburgh and the Lothian Region

Powerchair Football in Scotland has grown rapidly since 2012 with a number of clubs being created and offering opportunities for Powerchair participants to compete in sport and meet their peers in a fun environment. At this current time there is no Powerchair provision in Edinburgh or surrounding local authorities with the closest opportunity being Dundee.

We have already identified some potential participants across Edinburgh’s schools but we are looking to consult with as wide a group of potential participants as possible and therefore at this stage we are just asking parents/carers and children and young people to let us know if they like to take up this opportunity to gauge if there is sufficient interest.  The opportunity will be open to individuals from Edinburgh and the Lothian region so if you are interested in hearing more about getting involved then please get in touch.

We have consulted with already established clubs across Scotland to assess the benefits for the players who currently take part in Powerchair Football and players have fed back the many positives of participation in the sport:

  • Feeling part of a team
  • Improved wheelchair skills which are transferable and benefit everyday life
  • Making new friends
  • Improved confidence

Beach Wheelchair Project "Come and See, Come and Try" Event

Beach Wheelchair Project "Come and See, Come and Try" Event

The Beach Wheelchair Project is delighted to issue an invitation to a ‘Come and See, Come and Try’ event 13.00- 16.00 on Friday 13th February at the Hope Rooms, 34 Forth Street and (weather permitting) on the West Beach at North Berwick.

The Beach Wheelchair Project is working to provide a beach wheelchair hire/ loan scheme in North Berwick for children and adults with disabilities.  A beach wheelchair is a specially designed all terrain wheelchair that can be pushed over soft or wet sand.

A range of beach wheelchairs will be on display.  Participants will have the opportunity to book a taster session on the day or can simply try the different chairs in the comfort of the Hope Rooms (please note unfortunately there is not a hoist available in the Hope Rooms).

The Project will be asking for feedback on the day including ease of use, comfort and supportiveness etc.  There will also be snacks and live music to cheer everyone up after braving the elements.

If you are interested in this event please confirm attendance attendance on the Beach Wheelchair Facebook page or by emailing Alison Brown on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
