SFA School League Fixture 2 - Dalkeith School Campus, Midlothian
Friday 20th March 2015
The second fixture in this season's Scottish FA School League for players with a learning disability was played at Dalkeith School Campus on Friday 20th March. The league, which encourages players from S3 and upwards to represent their school in four fixtures throughout the 'season' and gives the young people the opportunity to travel to each local authority and play against their peers from different areas of Edinburgh and Lothians. The winners and runners up of the league will then be invited to the SDS/SFA National event, where they will compete against other top teams from across the country
and provide more competitive opportunities.
Friday's fixture saw four teams attempt to add to their points tally from the opening fixture at Woodlands School, Edinburgh with two teams building on their promising start - Woodlands (Edinburgh) and West Calder HS (West Lothian) continuing their promising start to the season and maintaining their places at the top of the league. However, it was West Calder HS who moved to the summit with an impressive display against their Edinburgh rivals, claiming a comprehensive 3-1 victory.
Last year's winners, Cedarbank (West Lothian) have experienced a challenging start to the season after a number of more senior players have moved on to pastures new. However they recorded their first win of the season on Friday, repaying the defeat handed out to them on the first day by Pilrig Park/Drummond CHS Combined (Edinburgh) - claiming a 4-2 victory. Both teams will look to build on their solitary victories in the remaining two fixtures and climb the league to challenge both Woodlands and West Calder HS.
The league is delivered in partnership with the Scottish FA and Street Soccer - the latter providing the referees for all four fixtures and further strengthening the partnership work between the organisation and Lothian Disability Sport.
The next fixture is scheduled for Friday 24th April and will be played in East Lothian
