Thursday 25th October saw the Lothian Regional Badminton Festival take place at Meadowmill Sports Centre, East Lothian. The event provided an opportunity for individuals to develop their badminton skills through a series of skill stations, each focusing on specific areas of the sport. The afternoon session of the event saw all participating school pupils play half court friendly matches against their peers from their own school and others from neighbouring schools, promoting the social interaction aspect of the sport.
The festival saw 67 pupils from 9 schools across 3 local authorities take part with some taking part in badminton for the first time. The afternoon concluded with Lothian Disability Badminton Club player and coach Colin Leslie playing in an exhibition match for the enthralled pupils. Leslie, who hopes to compete at Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, had led the event and was promoting the message that anything is possible, regardless of disability.
As in previous years, the event was organised and delivered collaboratively by Lothian Disability Sport, East Lothian’s Sports Development team and Lothian Disability Badminton Club who provided coaches to support with delivery on the day.
